Privacy Policy

The short version

There is no account, no sign-in and no profile. The app does not measure what you tap. It carries no analytics library, no advertising identifier and no third-party software kit of any kind, so there is nothing to send even if it wanted to.

Everything the app remembers — what you have saved, the boards you make, which towns you follow, when you want the morning line — is written to your phone and stays on it.

What the app keeps on your phone

All of this lives in the app’s own storage on the device. Most of it is included in an iPhone backup if you make one, and all of it is deleted along with everything else when you delete the app. None of it is transmitted.

• The events, places and freebies you have bookmarked, kept as identifiers rather than as copies of the listings.
• Your notification switches, the time you want the morning line, and how much warning a saved event gets.
• The towns you have chosen to follow.
• The boards you make, and any photograph you put on one. A picture you pick from your library is copied into the app’s own storage so the board still works with no signal. It is not uploaded anywhere.
• A cached copy of the guide, so the app opens instantly and works offline. It is marked as excluded from backup, because it can always be downloaded again.

The requests the app makes

The guide itself is one unauthenticated GET to https://westmipinned.com/api/app-feed. It carries no header, no cookie, no query string, no body and no identifier of any kind, and the response is the same public file for everybody who asks. The app fetches it automatically at most once every half hour while it is open, and again whenever you pull to refresh or tap “Refresh now”. If you add the home screen widget, the widget asks for that same file on iOS’s own schedule, including while the app is closed.

Most photographs ship inside the app. Any picture added to the guide after your version was built loads from westmipinned.com when you scroll to it.

Maps are drawn by Apple’s MapKit, and directions open in Apple Maps. Those requests go to Apple from your device, under Apple’s privacy policy rather than ours.

As with any request on the internet, the server at the other end sees the connection and the IP address it came from. Nothing else about you or your phone is attached, and there is no identifier that could join one request to another, or to anything you have saved.

The full guide also ships inside the app, so a phone with no signal never has to ask.

Location

The app only asks for your location when you tap for it: the “Use my location” button while you are choosing towns, the locate button on the map, and the location row on the welcome screen. It asks iOS for a single approximate fix — while-in-use only, never “always”, and never in the background — works out which towns and places are nearest, and stops. That coordinate is never written to disk and never sent to us.

One exception is worth naming plainly. If you have already granted location, the drive-time estimate shown on an event, place or freebie asks Apple’s routing service how long the drive would take, which means Apple receives your starting point. That is Apple’s service under Apple’s privacy policy, and it is the only path by which a coordinate leaves the phone.

If you never tap, iOS never asks and the app never has it. Every part of the guide works without it. You can withdraw permission at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services.

Calendar, write only

Adding an event to your calendar asks for write-only access. That is a deliberately narrower permission than the usual one: it lets the app hand iOS a new entry and gives it no ability to read anything already in your calendar. Nothing is added without you tapping to add it, and you confirm the entry in Apple’s own sheet.

Photos

The app has no access to your photo library. Choosing a picture for a board goes through Apple’s own photo picker, which runs outside the app and hands back only the one picture you picked. Saving a finished board asks for add-only access, which is what “Save Image” in the share sheet needs — the app can add a picture and cannot read what is already there.

Notifications

Every notification is scheduled on the phone by the app, from the guide it already has. There is no push server, no device token and no remote notification of any kind, which means nobody — including us — learns that you saved a particular event or follow a particular town.

All the categories start switched off, and iOS is only asked for permission at the moment you turn the first one on.

Links out

Every event links to the venue’s own listing, and many places link to their own websites. Once you follow one of those, you are on somebody else’s site under their terms and their privacy policy. The app does not control them and cannot speak for them.

Children

The app collects no personal information from anybody, of any age. There is nothing to delete on request, because there is nothing held. Deleting the app removes everything it kept on your phone.

This website

westmipinned.com runs no analytics and sets no cookies. Boards you make here are stored by your own browser and never reach the server. The one third party involved is the map on the site, whose tiles are drawn by CARTO from OpenStreetMap data — those services see a request for each tile you look at.

Changes

The app carries its own copy of this policy as text inside the binary rather than as a web page, so it can only change when a new version ships and is reviewed. If what the app does ever changes, both copies change and the date at the top moves with them.
